The Challenge
Stage 1 of Anglicare’s Minto development involves the construction of 220 retirement living units across 6 buildings, as well as a 100 bed aged care home. The project scope includes a large community centre for residents, a cafe, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, and extensive landscaping and parking facilities.
Australian Commercial Building Company, Hansen Yuncken oversaw the planning and management of this development. The company employed the services of Magic Glass for all glazing requirements of the project. This involved the manufacture and installation of all glass and associated hardware within the building, including architecturally designed and extreme weather resistant windows.
The Solution
Magic Glass was successful in overseeing all glazing work required in the 7 buildings and 346 openings of the development. This included awning windows, sliding balcony doors, internal partitions, entry automation, crimsafe and flyscreens.
Additionally, Magic Glass was responsible for the design of the windows based on the architectural intent. This included design loads for wind and crowd loading where applicable. Prototype windows and doors were installed to provide flashing details to ensure the windows would perform in extreme weather.
By working closely with the Hansen Yuncken team, Magic Glass was able to accommodate a revised construction schedule and complete all necessary works within a shorter time frame. This was done by increasing resources on site and establishing a second shift within the fabrication team and in-house factory.
The Feedback
“Magic Glass supplied and installed all glass and associated hardware across all 7 buildings,” said Project Manager, Anton Dadich, “I don’t think many other glass suppliers would be able to achieve that.”
When asked about Magic Glass’ performance throughout the project, Anton provided an abundance of positive feedback, “Magic Glass was great in terms of communication, responsiveness, and just getting it done. Particularly when it came to dealing with defects; they sorted it out with no further questions asked. Being able to handle 7 buildings at once, particularly over the Christmas period is very impressive. I’d definitely use Magic Glass again and recommend them to others.”
