To install windows properly you need to take the measurements of the height, width, and depth of the window opening:
- When measuring the height you want to measure from the window sill to the top of the opening of the window. The window sill is that surface that is closest to the inside of it. Be sure to measure at three different points -at the far right, the far left and in the middle and then use the shortest height to make your order.
- When measuring the width you want to do the same thing. Measure the bottom, top as well as the middle and again take the shortest width as your measurement of choice. Take your measurements from the jambs surface and not from the parting beads or trim strips. This will make your measurements accurate.
- Again when you measure depth, don’t measure the parting strips or the pulley because when you install windows they will simply be removed as well. Make sure to measure 3.75 inches of space between the blind stop strip on the outside and the window trim on the inside.
If you are hesitant to have new windows installed because of cost reasons, you may be surprised to find that your old windows are costing you more in bills than you might assume. Your average Australian home has single glazed windows, but by simply upgrading to double glazed windows you could save yourself about $250 every year in extra power bills. The new windows won’t let out heat in the winter which means that your house will stay warmer and reduce your heating costs. Furthermore, with double glazing windows noise from the outside is controlled better so that you can enjoy peace and quiet in your home as it should be.
